mustangs
**2024 Update***
TIP PROGRAM and 100 day emm HAS been discontinued. I am still passionate about helping to foster relationships between mustangs and their people. If you need help to address issues, or simply to grow in your relationship with your mustang, or if you would like to adopt a wild horse from the BLM and have him/her gentled at a facility that meets requirements, before bringing them home, please see training or lessons tab for more information. After reading through the information feel free to send me an email and we can work to tailor a program that fits your mustang. I understand that mustangs are unique and do not always fit into a cookie cutter training program, and am happy to discuss options.
Thank you,
Maddie Hofmeister
Adopting a Mustang
Mustangs of varying levels of training are available for adoption from the Bureau of Land Management through programs founded by the Mustang Heritage Foundation.
The two main programs that I work within are the Extreme Mustang Makeover and the Trainer Incentive Program.
Trainer Incentive Program (TIP)
Gentled Mustangs are available for adoption for $125 through the TIP program. (scroll to see available horses) A mustang is considered gentle when it can be haltered and led, loaded on and off a trailer, and have its hooves handled. Adopters must meet the BLM adoption requirements found here. When a potential adopter meets the adoption requirements, they can fill out an adoption application and mail it to your regions BLM office. Once your application is approved the BLM office will ask you to fill out the Private Maintenance and Care Agreement and send the $125 check to them with it. Once they approve you, you can arrange for the pickup of your new mustang and take them home.
For more information please see the official Mustang Heritage Foundation site, or contact me.
EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER
Trained mustangs are available for Adoption Auction through the Extreme Mustang Makeover. Horses have about 100-120 days taming, training, and riding before they travel to Lexington KY where they compete in a series of classes designed to show off their handling and riding skills, as well as their versatility. The horses are then available for adoption, through an auction to the highest bidder.
For more information, please see the official Extreme Mustang Makeover Site, or contact me.
